Fencing @ Cambridgeshire Fencing Club

Cambridgeshire Fencing Club runs Taster Sessions and Beginners Courses for adults (16+) with little or no experience in fencing.  We also run Intermediate Classes for novices building on their beginners course or those coming back to fencing after a break.

Further details on these sessions and courses are below.  All classes take place on Thursday evenings at Netherhall School Sports Hall, Queen Edith’s Way, Cambridge, CB1 8NN.

You can register for Taster Sessions & Beginners Courses through the following page: http://entries.cambsfa.org.uk.

If you would like to be kept updated about our future courses and classes, please contact us at enquiries@camfc.org.uk.

Please note that we are the adult (16+) fencing club for Cambridgeshire so if you are looking to arrange fencing for younger children please contact Cambridge’s Youth Club cambridgesword@hotmail.co.uk. We can, however, arrange classes for families that wish to attend (e.g. teenagers joining in with their parent/guardian).

Intermediate Classes at CFC

Cambridge Fencing Club are currently running Intermediate Classes with Julia Malinowska, a Level 2 qualified foil coach.  These are designed for those who have just completed a beginners course and would like to keep fencing or for those coming back to fencing after a long break and would like to brush up on their skills.

The Intermediate Classes take place at Netherhall School, Queen Edith’s Way, Cambridge, CB1 8NN every Thursday between 7:50-9:20pm.  Extra 1:1 sessions are available with Julia upon request.

Please contact enquiries@camfc.org.uk if you are interested in intermediate lessons.

Beginners Course

The Late Autumn Course starts on Thursday 2nd November.

New Year ’24 Fencing Course starts on Thursday 1st February.

Registration is now OPEN for the Beginners Course. You can register through this page: http://entries.cambsfa.org.uk

The Beginners Course Runs for 6 weeks on Thursday nights from 8:00pm-9:00pm.  The course is geared towards adults (16+) and we have had participants of all ages from 16 – late 60’s. Younger children should contact the Cambridge Sword, linked at the top of this page.

The course is structured in a way to take you from no fencing experience at all to the ability to take part in a proper fencing match. A general warm-up and stretching session is followed by fencing footwork, technical partner exercises and ends with an opportunity for free fencing.

The course costs £65 or £50 for U18 / Students / Concessions.  For this you will receive 6 lessons, use of club kit and 3 months club membership, so there will be an opportunity after the course to fence with regular club members in a trial period, take an Intermediates Course and see whether you want to become a full member.  You can also use this time to try out the different weapons (epeé and sabre).

All sessions and courses are taught by a group of experienced, qualified fencing coaches. All fencing equipment will be provided.  We try to keep the exertion at a reasonable level and concentrate on fencing technique so people with various levels of fitness can enjoy the classes.  At the end of each lesson there will be opportunity to put what you have learnt into practise by fencing fellow beginners.

What you need to bring

Please bring clean sports shoes and comfortable clothing, including clothing which cover your legs. You’ll need to be able to freely move and stretch your legs so tracksuit trousers are best. Shorts or skirts should not be worn. You might want to bring a bottle of water.

Registration for the course is a 20% deposit of the full fee (i.e. £15).  The full fee will be due on the first evening of the Course.

Please email enquiries@camfc.org.uk if you have any further questions about the course or if you have any issues with registering.
